A Little Story Behind This Recipe

I have very beautiful memories attached to this dish. This was my Daddy’s favorite dish, and we had it every weekend. My husband has grown to enjoy this daal since I began making it with my mother’s recipe after we married. This dish is quick and simple to make with just a few ingredients, and I have to say that the baghaar/tadka and garnishing make all the difference. We occasionally had Shammi kabob on the side, which is, in my opinion, the perfect accompaniment to this dish.

While there are numerous ways to prepare mash dals, such as bhuni hue mash dal, tarka dal, fry dal, dhaba style, and masala dar mash dal, this recipe is a classic and tastes amazing with just a few ingredients.
