Gajrela is a traditional and immensely popular easy winter dessert in Pakistan. It is made with milk and grated carrots, and it takes just 20 minutes to prepare, making it the best way to indulge your sweet tooth.
What Is Gajrela?
It is a very popular Pakistani and Indian dessert made with a combination of carrots and milk. Since Pakistan’s winters are the best time to find carrots, this recipe is typically enjoyed during a specific season. It is a highly flavorful dish that is typically served during winter festivals and special occasions.
Why Make This Gajrela Recipe?
It is a quick and easy dessert to make and enjoy on cold winter nights. Warm Gajrela not only tastes good but also keeps your body warm in the winter and is high in nutrients.
Ingredients You Need For Gajrela
The best part of the dish is it cooks with a limited number of ingredients that are usually available in the home pantry.
Milk: Any milk can be used, but full-fat or whole milk is recommended for the richest flavor.
Sugar: You can use white or brown sugar of your choice
Carrots: and, of course, carrots are the main ingredient.
Spices: Such as cardamom and clove not only add aroma but also help to enhance the flavor.
Difference Between Gajrela And Gajar Ka Halwa
Gajrela is a semi-liquid base where you don’t dry the milk, so it cooks faster than gagar ka halwa. On the other hand, Gajar ka halwa is a dry version (bhuna hua) by simmering carrots in milk and sugar until completely dried and then adding khoya and dried nuts at the end.
15-Minute Quick Weeknight Recipe
Wash and peel the carrots, and grate them in a food processor or manual food grater. use a heavy bottom pot. Heat the oil, then add the cloves and stir for a few seconds before adding the grated carrots. Sauté for a few minutes to release the aroma, then add the milk and let it simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the carrots soften and the milk thickens. Now add the sugar and cook for another 5 minutes. It is ready to serve. Serve it hot for optimal flavor, though you can serve it cold if you would prefer.
