Since moving to America, I’ve been craving those delicious patties, but sadly, I haven’t found any here. I know many of you will feel nostalgic about this recipe—it takes me back to our childhoods and the beloved Pakistani tea times that almost always had those tasty patties!

A common bakery treat, these Pakistani chicken patties are composed of flaky puff pastry, stuffed with creamy chicken, and garnished with sesame seeds.

Ingredients

  • 500 boiled shredded chicken

  • 1 small onion finely chopped

  • 1 tbsp butter

  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp vinegar

  • 1 tsp chilli flakes (adjust to taste)

  • 2 tbsp plan flour

  • 2 tbsp cream

  • 1 egg (for brushing)

  • 1/2 tsp black seeds to sprinkle at the top (optional)

Directions

  • Prepare the Filling:
  • Heat butter in a pan over medium heat.
  • Add chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent.
  • Now, add in the ginger-garlic paste and cook for about a minute until it’s fragrant – your kitchen is going to smell amazing!
  • Next, add the shredded chicken and mix everything well together.
  • Now, add soy sauce and vinegar, and add chili flakes. Stir to combine.
  • Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir constantly for 1–2 minutes to cook out the raw flour taste.
  • Add cream and cook for another 1–2 minutes or until the mixture thickens slightly and comes together nicely.
  • Remove from heat and let the filling cool completely.
  • Assemble
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Roll out puff pastry sheets or use pre-cut squares.
  • Place a full spoon of the chicken mixture in the center of each piece.
  • Fold and press with a fork to seal the edges, and then place on a baking tray.
  • Beat the egg and brush the tops of the puffs.
  • Sprinkle black seeds on top (optional).
  • Bake
  • Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
