Hunter beef

Cooking with my dad as his little helper and assisting him in preparing Hunter Beef is one of my beautiful childhood memories. I assisted him in assembling all of the ingredients and perking the meat. Every year after Eid ul Adha, it was a must-have dish that my siblings and I eagerly anticipated. We ate the Hunter Beef sandwiches with homemade mayonnaise for practically every meal. It transports me back in time, and I can almost taste the flavor in my mouth.

Since moving to the United States, I have started making this dish, which my husband and children enjoy.

My heart was filled with joy when my daughter asked me to prepare this dish today, marking my achievement in sharing my childhood recipe with my children. I wish that they would adhere to this family’s recipe.

What Is Hunter Beef

As is commonly said, hunter beef is the Pakistani equivalent of the salt beef that the British brought with them. It is commonly made in northern Pakistan. The origin of the name could be attributed to the popularity of the hunting game in northern Pakistan.

Steps To Make Perfect Beef

  • Wash the meat, then pat it dry.
  • Rub together the salt, lemon juice, and cumin powder. (For the best results, use freshly ground cumin.)
  • Using a knife or fork, prick the beef all over
  • Turn the beef over and sprinkle with the remaining spices and prick.
  • Marinate the meat for at least 24 hours in the refrigerator for optimal results.
  • After 12 hours, remove the meat from the fridge and pierce it once more to allow the spices to seep inside. This will allow the marinade to seep into the meat while flavoring and tenderizing it. Refrigerate again for another 12 hours.
  • Heat the oil in a large pan and add the cinnamon stick; once the aroma is released, add the meat.
  • Cook on low heat for 30 minutes. Cover the lid. At this point, the beef will release its own water, so do not add any more.
  • Cook the potatoes until they become tender. Enjoy!

Tips For Making Hunter Beef

Pierce the meat with a fork or the point of a sharp knife to prepare it for marinating. This will allow the marinade to seep into the beef chunk and significantly enhance its flavor.

Make sure to marinate for at least 24 hours.

Overcooking causes the meat to dry out.

Let roast rest for 15-20 minutes before carving

How To Carve The Roast Perfectly

You can carve roast beef by following these steps:

  1. Use a sharp knife. Using an electric kine is also a viable option.
  2. Before carving, look for the grain of the loaf.
  3. Hold the roast in place with a meat fork during the carving.
  4. Cut the slices between 1/4- and 1/2-inch thick.
  5. Cut only the number of slices needed for the meal. This helps to keep leftover portions juicy
  6. Always cut against the grain to maintain tenderness.

Serving Suggestion For The Hunter Beef

Assemble the sandwich by spreading mayonnaise on a slice of bread, then layering potato chunks and Hunter beef, and finishing with tomato slices.

To make a complete meal, add it to any salad.

Make a wrap by adding your favorite sauce and topping

Serve in the breakfast with the side of the eggs.

How Long Can Hunter Beef Be Stored?

Cover the leftovers and store them in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Simply reheat in the pan over low-medium heat or in the microwave.
